We are happy to now support every & all accelerator in town that provides capital and office space and we want to focus on mentorship, coaching, advice, community building, etc. We had a specific goal in mind.

As of near the end of September 2009, we’re up 46% since the March 9th nadir (yes, I need to find a way to use one of my SAT words ; – ).

But before I sent it I had made 10 private phone calls, sent emails & built support. Jody self-funded the company and worked from his spare bedroom in February 2009. It worked like a charm.

I found this annoying (I can’t think of a better word for the behavior) because it seemed like entrepreneurs were more concerned about the optics of the financing round than who was participating, would the lead (me) but supportive or simply focusing on building a great product and trusting that the financing nomenclature would work itself out.

We sold that at the end of 2007 and I stayed on with MoneyGram International who acquired the company until the end of 2009. And you’re either supporting their card business or you are their card business. Like we become like an appendage or an organ, like we need to be supporting their business in a way.
