Helium

A VC: Musings of a VC in NYC

My partner Nick, who led this investment for USV, wrote about Helium on the USV blog and explains why we made the investment (as is our practice with all new investments). It is ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Think about your dog’s name tag. Helium is optimized for very long distance, low power communications.

Why Did I Invest in the Company Pose?

Both Sides of the Table

I always try hard to make this blog a place where you can learn lessons rather than an advertisement for portfolio companies. That’s always stuck with me.

This Week in VC with Om Malik & Paul Jozefak

Both Sides of the Table

Diverse search results include stream updates, blog posts, news articles, photos, videos (versus Twitter/FaceBook1 only). Enforcement of policy is uncertain and widely debated as many suspect that Apple is just looking to limit Google/AdMob’s presence on Apple devices. Tags: This Week in Venture Capital.

Five common misconceptions about building a startup in New York City

This is going to be BIG.

If your first resort when you have trouble raising money is to complain about New York on a tech blog, you’re really doing yourself a disservice in the relationship building area. On top of that, tech blogs like TechCrunch, Mashable, GigaOM, and Venturebeat all cover NYC tech startups. They’re all doing pretty well.
