I'll bet you don't know where the Center of NY's Tech Community and Center of Creativity is. In fact, it is "well-known internationally as the original home of New York's technology community.". VCs and fulltime angels bring a lot more than just money to the communities they invest in. It says so right on their website.

Cheaper rents could make it a great place for the creative community and there''s no reason why it shouldn''t become as popular a destination for out of town events the same way that Austin has. What was harder to figure out how to do--and something no one ever really thinks about on the economic development side, is community.

General Assembly isn''t really a coworking company. By professionalizing startup education in NYC, GA has made a huge impact in the community. GA isn''t any better at coworking than anywhere else. Yes, it''s a cool group of people--and I was a community member as well. Keep calm and cowork on. We''ll be just fine.

The tech community has been having a long-overdue conversation about mental health and work/life balance and it’s something I’ve been talking up as far back as 2006 , 2009 , and 2014 on my blog and in public. It makes me want to quit venture capital entirely. It’s an embarrassment to the ecosystem.

The important lesson in order to gain market share was that in order for new users to try Microsoft Excel, they had to be able to work with the files their coworkers were creating. The software is not difficult to build and the hosting element has become a commodity; the hard part is building a community. Building Communities.
