TechStars Interactions. They stayed in some nice camps with showers & swimming pools and in some very basic camps without electricity or running water. At the simpler camps his family interacted with all of the other guests – there was a certain bond – a warmth. At the nicer camps they had more luxury, comfort and space.

tl;dr + Techstars was once one of the world’s leading accelerator programs, but has steadily been eclipsed by Y combinator. Techstars recently announced a string of executive departures and program closures – including termination of the Seattle program, one of its oldest and most successful.

Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate. And they helped David Cohen launch TechStars , which started as a Boulder-based accelerator. So you see long, drawn-out processes, non-commercial terms, investors who want to meddle too much and so on.

So what about a Techstars-like program for new VCs? There are a few programs out there like Kaufmann and InSite that get you exposure to the VC world through mentorship, but you join those programs and go work for other people. What I''m talking about is how to get mentorship to launch and run my own fund. I still would.
