I'll bet you don't know where the Center of NY's Tech Community and Center of Creativity is. In fact, it is "well-known internationally as the original home of New York's technology community.". VCs and fulltime angels bring a lot more than just money to the communities they invest in. It says so right on their website.
Cheaper rents could make it a great place for the creative community and there''s no reason why it shouldn''t become as popular a destination for out of town events the same way that Austin has. Unfortunately, there''s no hotel, conference, or venue space to allow a South by Coney Island.
By professionalizing startup education in NYC, GA has made a huge impact in the community. GA isn''t any better at coworking than anywhere else. We do need them continuing to offer classes, because curriculum development, faculty management, and running classroom space is hard. Keep calm and cowork on. Tons of places.
