Want to map your entrepreneurship ecosystem but don’t know how to get started? Note: I originally published this article in 2019 to share my lessons-learned from mapping a local ecosystem. I’ve added some of those insights here while I work on a more comprehensive resource guide to mapping entrepreneurship ecosystems.

Over the past three years, there has been a marked increase in the number of women pursuing entrepreneurship, with an estimated 40 percent of new businesses in the United States started by women. Widespread layoffs during the pandemic contributed to an initial rise in female entrepreneurship in 2020, along with the need for flexibility.

As we foster the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems, it’s important to design them to level the playing field for women.

Register Standard Chartered Bank has joined forces with Singapore Management University’s Lien Centre to establish a Women in Entrepreneurship Incubator. The Women in Entrepreneurship Incubator , funded by a $300,000 contribution from the bank, aims to empower female entrepreneurs dedicated to creating a positive social impact.

New ways of doing things had to be created and implemented, and we found in those early months the value in having an entrepreneurial mindset in everything we do, not just business. Entrepreneurship-led job creation. The importance of social change through entrepreneurship has also become more widely acknowledged.
