I’m sharing my thought process because perhaps it will nudge some of you to angel invest too! I consider myself a furiously curious person, and angel investing is one of the most rewarding ways I’ve experienced to satisfy this curiosity. My angel investing hobby was making me a better Founder, CEO, and business leader.

I know that in late 2010 it’s not as popular to say this because we’re in the era of “super angels&# and feel-good startups. The lucky cards some angels are dealt with mostly have to do with the timing of their investments. Let’s call these cards 1996-99, 2005-08 and 2010+. It’s hard to say.

The dinner parties now are filled with self-righteous angel investors bragging about how many deals they are in on. They have marked-up paper gains propped up by an over excited venture capital market that has validated their investments. Logic tells me the following: It is hard to make money angel investing.

Either scenario requires angel deals to be funded further. I know that in late 2010 it’s not as popular to say this because we’re in the era of “super angels&# and feel good startups. If 2011 & 2012 look like 2010 then the current crop of angel investors will look great. It’s hard to say.

Despite the growth in awarded venture capital (VC) funds, a staggering disparity remains between the amount of total VC funds invested in entrepreneurs and the portion of those funds invested in ventures founded and/or led by women—particularly women of color. Over the past month a colleague ( Chang Xu ) and I sifted through data on the venture capital industry (as we do every year) and made a bunch of calls to VCs and LPs to confirm our hypotheses. As a result of the IPO window shifting we saw a massive inflow of public-market capital into the latest stages of venture.

Here are the trends in venture capital financings from 2006 through 2010 – the number of seed stage deals funded and total investment by region in millions of dollars. . In 2010, MoneyTree© reports that only 138 seed stage VC deals were done outside of California, New England, NYC Metro and the Pacific Northwest.
