Ecosystem builders exist in a variety of places, such as communities, organizations, industries, etc. We have been really successful in changing our community’s culture. We’ve also had some success in convening ecosystem actors to discuss and share programs, refer entrepreneurs, etc.

We found one of those exemplary steps in southern Virginia where the Dan River Region Entrepreneur Ecosystem recognized the need for an ecosystem coordinator and rallied their stakeholders to hire the first entrepreneurial ecosystem builder for the region. Like many communities in this position, it has not been easy or straightforward.
