Ask any AI chatbot a question, and its answers are either amusing, helpful, or just plain made up. Because AI tools like ChatGPT work by predicting strings of words that it thinks best match your query, they lack the reasoning to apply logic or consider any factual inconsistencies they're spitting out.

That's why I was so excited to get my hands on Google's new AI chatbot, Google Bard. It's similar to other AI-powered text generation tools like ChatGPT , but it's supposed to pack the power of Google Search —where I spend most of my time—into a conversational bot. For example: It hallucinates.

Stability AI , the startup behind the generative AI art tool Stable Diffusion , today open-sourced a suite of text-generating AI models intended to go head to head with systems like OpenAI’s GPT-4. But Stability AI claims it created a custom training set that expands the size of the standard Pile by 3x.

OpenAI shipped GPT-4 yesterday, the much-anticipated text-generating AI model, and it’s a curious piece of work. Like GPT-3, the model “hallucinates” facts and makes basic reasoning errors. In one example on OpenAI’s own blog , GPT-4 describes Elvis Presley as the “son of an actor.”
