I had the pleasure of interviewing Adam Rosen. For the past 15 years, Adam has held leadership roles in both corporate and start-up companies within the retail, supply chain, logistics, and recruiting industries. In 2022, when his son began returning home from kindergarten at 2:30 pm due to staffing shortages in the after-school program, Adam founded Radar Talent Solutions to assist his local school district in hiring more childcare providers. When not working, Adam enjoys activities such as bike riding, sledding, running, or engaging in woodworking projects. He resides in Edina, MN with his wife Rachael, their two children, and their two goldfish (Goldy and Silver).

What motivated you to launch your startup?

When my son was entering Kindergarten, my wife and I enrolled him in an afterschool care program. However, he was placed on a waitlist of 700 people. With no other childcare options available between 2:30–5:00 pm, my son would return home at 2:30 every day and watch TV while my wife and I continued working. We considered ourselves fortunate as we could work from home and had some schedule flexibility. Other parents had to reduce their work hours, leave their jobs, or settle for less than ideal childcare solutions. I reached out to the school and offered my assistance, and that’s how Radar Talent Solutions came into existence. I established it to aid communities affected by staffing shortages in the public sector.

What excites you about what you’re building?

It’s truly a win-win situation. When we assist school districts or local governments in their recruitment efforts, they can enhance their services, some of which are revenue-generating. With each placement, we contribute to thriving communities. We envision a world where childcare programs have full staffing, aquatics centers operate fully during the season, and students are supported by the necessary bus drivers and paraprofessionals to succeed.

What has been the most significant challenge in growing your startup?

We’ve been fortunate so far with an overwhelming demand for our services and enthusiastic clients eager to address these issues. Our challenges revolve around maintaining a high level of service while scaling our operations.

What are your future plans for your startup?

We are developing proprietary technologies aimed at enhancing the entire experience of high-volume recruiting for the public sector.

If you could share some “words of wisdom” with a founder about to start their own startup, what would they be?

Start small. Identify a problem affecting your neighborhood or local community. Volunteer to help solve that problem. If your solution proves effective, explore where else this issue exists. Leverage your successes to attract others and repeat the process.
