Unsung Hero Spotlight: Nia Richardson

To you, what is an ecosystem builder?

I see an ecosystem builder as someone who is an architect of networking building, resources and human connections. To do this, we create pathways or guides that help people move to the next step to reaching their ultimate goal.

What motivates you as an ecosystem builder?

Knowing that I am not simply giving someone a “fish”, but I am giving them the resources they need to learn how to fish, so they can obtain the tools to build a SHIP (Entrepreneurship). I help people build ships for the rising tide.

What is your biggest frustration as an ecosystem builder?

Biggest Frustration as an eco-system builder is that I don’t see many people at my level of ecosystem building that look like me and the impact that has on the success of Black and Brown entrepreneurs. We need more seats at the table, or we need to start building our own tables and chairs.

What ecosystem building skill/knowledge do you want to gain?

I want others to obtain the knowledge and understanding of how to build more ecosystems for Black and Brown Entrepreneurs, or help remove barriers that prevent us from doing so. This can be done by creating ecosystems that support micro-enterprise businesses.

What are the most important things that need to happen to advance the field of ecosystem building?

The inclusion and advancement of people who look like me that understand the need and the passion to leverage entrepreneurSHIP as a tool to close the racial wealth gap in Black and Brown communities.
