I had the pleasure of interviewing Bob Shami who is a pioneering entrepreneur with a strong focus on utilizing technology to drive innovation in the music distribution landscape. With a rich history in AI ventures, including NEOS-AI, Music DASH, and NF Hits, Bob has been instrumental in reshaping the independent music economy. What motivated you to launch your startup?
The desire to bridge the gap between technology and the music industry and empower independent musicians propelled the launch of my startup.
What is it that excites you about what you’re building?
I am excited about the future of our tech solutions, like Music DASH, using AI to empower artists and reshape the music industry’s dynamics, fostering a more fair ecosystem as a whole.
What has been your biggest challenge when growing your startup?
Gatekeeping has been a major challenge, but also how outdated and closed off the music industry is. They only adopt tech, when it’s too late. To “fix” issues, as opposed to being early adopters and helping it to evolve more rapidly.
What are your future plans for your startup?
We aim to further expand our tech offerings, especially AI. And fix industry issues from the inside, so that artists can have a better experience, be well compensated, and the whole music industry have more transparency and grow its economy beyond major labels and artists.
If you had to share, “words of wisdom,” with a Founder who’s about to start their own startup, what would they be?
To all the aspiring founders out there, my advice would be to stay true to your vision, embrace innovation, and never give up. Adapting to change and persevering through challenges are critical for success. It has to get bad before it gets good.
