In the last week, I’m witnessing an acceleration in what I’ll call “The COVID Struggle,” or more simply, “The Struggle.” Many people are having a hard time dealing with and accepting the reality of life under a global pandemic, and are lashing out against this constrained way of living in ways big and small. They desperately want things to go back to the way they were before, so they pretend that everything is fine—that life as we knew it can resume with minimal further disruption.

Growing up, I thought the price asked was the price. The only decision was whether or not you wanted to pay it. As I moved into adulthood, started hanging out with the Gotham Gal and a bunch of friends, and entered the world of business, I learned that the price was what you agreed to pay for something, not what was asked. When I started out in VC in the mid 80s, the investors usually started the price negotiation.

Have you frequented a business and not only do they have signs that read "wear a mask" or "keep 6 feet away" but they also share how they're keeping their customers and employees safe. Yesterday I was at a gas station that had a sign, "if you need gloves, ask". They provided gloves to customers who wanted them. SEC Chairman Jay Clayton has proposed allowing more people to invest in early-stage companies – which would herald a long-overdue democratization of the market.
