I had the pleasure of interviewing Hugh Sheridan, Co-Founder & Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Andiamo.

Hugh is a hugely experienced innovative leader within the Medical Technology industry and specifically the Medical disciplines of Orthotic & Prosthetics, Rehabilitation, Diabetic Foot Care & Medical Device 3D Printing. Over a 20 year career he was instrumental in driving Algeos to become the largest supplier in its field leading record revenue and profit growth. As CEO, Algeos became one of the leading commercial players within the Global orthotics & prosthetics industry establishing subsidiaries and offices on five continents and building a large global network of clinical and commercial contacts. Whilst based in Dubai, Hugh implemented a hugely successful education strategy within the Asia Pacific & Middle East Region receiving both clinical and commercial recognition. Hugh joined the Andiamo team in June 2019 and has led the commercialisation strategy ever since, signing up Andiamo’s first commercial customers, assembled an industry leading medical advisory board and promoted Andiamo as one of the leaders in Medical 3D Printing as well as defining the company strategy focused on placing families first whilst maximizing the patient and clinical experience

Thank you so much for joining us!

What motivated you to launch your startup?

I didn’t. A brilliant research team and 2 parents of a child with Cerebral Palsy built the technology and due to COVID that team disbanded and the original founders and myself joined together to commercialize the technology for the US market. So I co-founded version 2 of the company and got involved because of 3 things — the drive and ambition of the 2 other founders, the unique product which achieves somethings our competitors can’t and the very strong brand story that connects with families in a way I haven’t seen before.

What is it that excites you about what you’re building?

How big we could take it. This is a global multi billion dollar revenue opportunity that can disrupt existing relationships that millions of families have with their healthcare providers, how they experience their healthcare and also how they pay for it.

What has been your biggest challenge when growing your startup?

We’re British so initially it was that we couldn’t jump onto a plane and be in-market till late 2021. We have had to build a virtual/remote company operating on multiple continents with meetings on Zoom or Google Meet working completely from home over COVID. We’ve never met in person most of our wider team. We built up a big sales pipeline this way but onboarding quickly and efficiently is tough and getting the right people in the right places.

What are your future plans for your startup?

We measure ourselves by how many families living with Cerebral Palsy we can successfully reach and engage with. We have a number of digital products and services we’re launching for remote telemedicine, remote patient monitoring, wider bracing range, wearable sensors and family coaches.

If you had to share, “words of wisdom,” with a Founder who’s about to start their own startup, what would they be?

It’s a cliche but don’t build a company for an investor to invest in — build it for the customer you feel passionately about and kill yourself trying to solve the problem they’re having. Everything else, including funding and traction will slot in behind.

This was very insightful. Thank you so much for joining us!
