Mosh JD’s CEO Takes HR to the Future with AI-Powered Job Description Software

I had the pleasure of interviewing Josh Kiernan, CEO of Mosh JD. Josh is an entrepreneurial visionary with over a decade of experience in technology sales, HR service delivery, and consulting.

At Mosh JD, Josh and his team are on a mission to address a longstanding challenge often overlooked in the HR tech space — job description management. They are committed to eliminating the chaos surrounding job descriptions and streamlining processes vital for effective talent management, compensation planning, talent acquisition, and overall HR success.

Josh is not only focused on the present but also driven by a vision for the future. His goal is to continue to thoughtfully integrate AI technology to help Mosh JD’s clients solve meaningful HR and compensation challenges with ease and efficiency.

What motivated you to launch Mosh JD?

My business partner and I had always talked about starting our own company but we wanted to start something powerful; something that could really solve a problem and make a significant positive impact.

We both have been in HR technology for over a decade and see how challenging it is for companies to create job descriptions, keep them up to date, and keep some level of control as job requirements and job description versions change. Oftentimes it seems recruiters, compensation professionals, and hiring managers are pulling in opposite directions; building job catalogs and descriptions in siloed folders as they need them. The resulting inaccuracy and chaos lends itself to compensation misalignment, compliance issues, skills gaps, and mismatched expectations between employees and employers.

We evaluated options on the market and found most of the available solutions were costly, antiquated, and overly complex; requiring lengthy implementation and training timelines. We also found that these offerings focused on enterprise level companies only. There was a need for something more simplified, that could deliver meaningful value faster and without the high cost of ownership of other systems.

We had found our opportunity to make a real impact on the HR market; by delivering a modern and simplified platform to create, update, and inventory job descriptions that enables organizations to address their JD challenges quickly. Our goal is to deliver a product that is easy to use, easy to implement, and can allow organizations to clean up their job descriptions inventories in weeks while remaining agile to address updates going forward.

We believe the best products in life take an obvious problem and solve it simply. My favorite technologies in the world focus on simplicity and quick time to value. You can buy anything on Amazon as soon as you think about it in just a few clicks. The iphone is brilliantly simple to use. We aim to give our customers the same experience when it comes to job description management.

JDs are a headache to manage and maintain for organizations everywhere but the process of drafting, updating, and managing job descriptions is often overlooked or deprioritized. With Mosh JD that problem can be solved simply, quickly, and affordably for all sized companies; not just organizations with large enterprise resourcing and budgets.

What is it that excites you about what you’re building at Mosh JD?

We are excited about the impact we can bring to hiring, HR service delivery, and compensation capabilities. Job descriptions are a fundamental aspect of human resources, and it’s an area where many organizations struggle with inefficiencies and outdated practices. Building a software solution to address this need can have a significant positive impact on HR departments and businesses. We feel we are addressing a real need in the market.

Job description management involves numerous variables, including legal compliance, clarity, and consistency. Applying AI to help solve these complex challenges has been intellectually stimulating and fulfilling. Along the way, we have met a lot of really smart people as the growth of Mosh JD continues to lead us to the formation of new partnerships in a dynamic industry.

This has afforded us a unique opportunity to combine technology, innovation, and problem-solving with the potential for positive, real-world impacts on businesses and HR practices. It’s already been an exciting journey and we’re just getting started.

What has been your biggest challenge when growing your startup?

As a bootstrapped company, we continually grapple with the challenge of prioritizing enhancement expenses while building an adaptable software tailored to diverse organizational requirements. We consistently integrate customer feedback into product improvements while looking for ways to minimally affect our competitive subscription fees.

What are your future plans for Mosh JD?

We continue to enhance and refine our job description management software based on customer feedback and evolving HR needs for simplicity, ease of use, and valuable feature enhancements. In addition, we will explore partnerships with HR consultancies or complementary HR tech solutions to expand the software’s reach in a way that will best benefit our clients.

If you had to share, “words of wisdom,” with a Founder who’s about to start their own startup, what would they be?

Take action. We’ve come to embrace and love the “70% solution” founded by the US Marine Corps used to make battlefield decisions. The principle states that if you have 70% of the intel you think you need to make a decision you can still make a good decision to act- provided you accept that you may need to adjust and compensate for the information you lacked when you decided to move forward. We have found this approach to be extremely powerful in helping us to act quickly and be nimble when adjustments are needed related to various business decisions or direction including development and improvements of our product.
