ACA-Supported Startup Act to be Reintroduced to Congress this Week


January 30, 2023 - This week Representative Rick Allen (R-GA) plans to reintroduce the Startup Act with the co-sponsorship of Reps. French Hill (R-AR), Dean Phillips (D-MN) and Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA). The act would correct language in the original Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act that aims to reduce barriers faced by entrepreneurs and improve access to training and support services from our workforce development system. 

The bill will authorize the Department of Labor to conduct a three-year, multi-state study to review the outcomes of these programs and report its findings to Congress. Learn more about this kind of policy online.

  • Incorporates entrepreneur support as one of the functions of state workforce boards 

SECTION 2 

  • Explicitly makes entrepreneurial skills programs eligible to receive funds 

SECTION 3 

  • Provides specific options to include entrepreneurship within career services offerings

  • Establishes parameters for multistate DOL research study to inform app
