I had the pleasure of interviewing Peter Palus, a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of various SaaS companies. His latest venture, CultureBoard, offers a range of modules for modern People Ops & Culture managers, including humorous eNPS surveys, a recognition tool for celebrating special moments, and a Q&A module for all-hands meetings and events.

What motivated you to launch your startup?

Conversations with numerous People Ops & Culture managers highlighted their pain points, the tools they utilized, their expenses, and the room for improvement they envisioned. I distilled this information into the value proposition and strategy for this company.

What excites you about what you’re building?

The opportunity to collaborate with exceptional individuals, both within our team and among our customers from top companies around the world. Additionally, the impact we’re making in the culture space and the positive atmosphere we’re fostering in workplaces through our modules.

What has been your biggest challenge when growing your startup?

Initially, acquiring companies in the first few months after launch posed a challenge, but we’ve overcome that hurdle. We’ve identified effective channels where we’ve increased our budget allocation. Another challenge has been finding genuine marketing experts, or “Growth hackers,” who possess a profound understanding of their craft and can comprehend the broader business and company context.

What are your future plans for your startup?

Our plans include securing a seed round by the end of the year, completing the final modules, and focusing on GTM (Go-To-Market) activities such as sales, business development, partnerships, content marketing, and events. By the end of the year, we aim to have 10,000 customers and achieve $100,000 in Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR).

If you had to share “words of wisdom” with a Founder who’s about to start their own startup, what would they be?

Don’t blindly accept advice from investors, external consultants, or fellow entrepreneurs. Your context might differ significantly, and sometimes taking counterintuitive actions is wiser. There are no universal solutions in our industry. What works as a best practice for one company could be detrimental or fatal for another company.
