Today, we’re announcing the launch of Revolution Ventures III (RV3) — an over-subscribed $215 million fund to invest in transformative early stage companies with the same team and differentiated approach as the successful Revolution Ventures II (RV2).

For over a decade, Revolution has invested time and capital to develop a proprietary network, ecosystem, and brand focused on sourcing deal flow from underserved markets around the country. At Revolution Ventures, we match this unique deal flow to the specific skills of our team and our hands-on and distinct approach to investing.

Many early stage venture capitalists today rely on a very large number of initial investments and sometimes can be insensitive to deal terms, for fear of missing a breakout company. Because of this, those investors often disengage from companies that do not soon promise to deliver a billion-dollar outcome to focus their time and capital on the companies showing early potential — with the unintended consequence of orphaning the rest of the companies in their portfolio, many of whom could have achieved success, if they had steadier — and unwavering — support from their investors.

At Revolution Ventures, we do not believe that venture capital investing outcomes have to be so binary. And the results speak for themselves: Revolution Ventures has produced top quartile funds since inception. RV2 has a lower loss ratio, more exits (5 of 18 companies have already achieved full or partial exits), and stronger cash returns than is typical of other funds of the same vintage.

With our new fund, we will continue to invest nationally — sourcing opportunities in geographies that are often overlooked by coastal venture capitalists. With RV2, we invested in companies such as Washington, D.C.-based Framebridge, which has upended the traditional framing industry; Detroit, MI-based Bloomscape, which is moving home plant sales online; and Denver-based SRS Acquiom (a successful partial exit for RV2), which created a platform to simplify the payments process following a merger or acquisition.

We obtain significant ownership stakes and form true partnerships with our companies — leading rounds and serving on boards — all with the goal of smart growth.

Being an entrepreneur is hard and we will stand by all our companies knowing that there will be inevitable “ups” and “downs” ahead. Every investment we make matters to our returns, resulting in unparalleled alignment with our founders.

Our team has been investing and collaborating together for over a decade. We have diverse backgrounds and bring varied skill sets to the table, but have one thing in common: we are passionate about the entrepreneurial journey and supporting founders as they build transformative companies.

Do you have a company on the path to disrupting its industry and need a partner who will support your company every step of the way? We’d love to hear from you.
