International Coworking Day

Today is the day to celebrate the fact that we are all part of something far greater than ourselves. Locally and globally, we are a community of forward thinkers, innovators and game changers paving the way for the future of work. This is big-time stuff, if you really think about it.

We, the coworking peeps of the world, are fundamentally shifting the way all workspaces are seen and structured. That is freaking epic. While we are collaborating, conspiring and disrupting the CRE and design markets, we are building a platform for change. We teamed up with Emergent Research to do a little research on our industry, Here’s what we found:

89% of people using coworking spaces reported being happier as a product of working from a shared space

84% are more engaged and motivated

73% of the people polled maintain their sanity through coworking

83% those polled reported being less lonely

When we started GCUC (2011) there were a little over 700 coworking spaces in the world. Today there are more than 25,000 coworking spaces in the world.  Deskmag reports there are over 2.2 million coworking members in said spaces. Independently owned and operated spaces make up about 85% of the spaces in the world per our global research partner, The Instant Group.

Not only that but Instant predicts coworking to grow to almost 50,000 spaces, globally by 2022. Coworking uniting and connecting people who would normally work in the isolation of their own homes, giving people a place to seek asylum from the distractions of home, and building diverse networks, coworking is making people happier and healthier. Coworking is changing lives.

If you have ever broken bread with, hugged, cried, or smiled at someone in your community, you have made a difference in someone’s life. They may not remember what you said in the moment but they will remember how you made them feel. Happy International Coworking Day, friends! Keep kicking ass and changing the world.
