Good morning, Paul.

You know, what’s amazing? The internet is amazing. Just think of the myriad of ways our lives now depend on the internet, from entertainment to information to conducting business and on and on it goes. Simply put, the internet plays a central role in the way we live our lives today.

How significant is it?

Well, consider this, Comcast 2020 Performance Data Report shows that customers generated 1 trillion plus internet requests daily. And that’s only through the Comcast platform.

One key driver to the growth in internet use in 2020? Well, of course, it was the pandemic while we were quarantined at home and working from home internet usage skyrocketed. Comcast this week released its 2020 performance network data and other key findings are as follows.

Peak internet traffic rose 32% compared with pre-pandemic levels, entertainment activities continued to dominate network traffic with video streaming accounting for 71% of all downstream traffic, growing by 70% compared with 2019 levels. Surprisingly, video conferencing only accounted for less than 5% of overall network use.

Makes you wonder how well work from home is really working. Uh, but let’s not go there, after all it’s, Friday, Right?

How about this one? During the span of four months during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, Comcast network experienced nearly two years’ worth of traffic growth

Other key drivers of traffic in 2020? Online gaming and the accompanying software downloads by 10% while web browsing grew by 8%.

Look, I can’t imagine life without the internet. You know, guys, simply put, it has to be one of the most, if not, arguably the most, transformational technologies to impact the way we live and work, perhaps ever.
