Good morning!

This morning on the Business Beat? Well, we’re taking a look at the state of remote work. A thing of the past? No way. The latest data from the just-released LinkedIn Workforce Report shows that remote work is here to stay and could even become the norm in a few specific industries. Let’s take a closer look.

Here’s the breakdown industry by industry on which are embracing remote work most. In the health care sector, about 15% of the staffing is now working remotely, wellness and fitness about 21%, media and communications about 21 and a half percent. And the big sector for remote working these days? Software and IT services. About 30% of the entire workforce now working remotely in that sector.

Look, it’s really no surprise. If you’re in an industry sector into which new technology was introduced during the pandemic that made it efficient and productive to have staff working remotely. It’s to be expected. It simply makes business sense to continue with the remote working model.

For example, telemedicine, while introduced into the health care field prior to the pandemic, got a big shot in the arm from the pandemic and is growing significantly now. It’s being embraced now more than ever. Simply put, it works. It makes sense. Visual Capitalist goes on to cite other examples, too.

Physical distancing measures forced some industries to pivot really quickly. How about virtual fitness and wellness options? Think Peloton and Headspace as they gain in popularity even today well beyond the pandemic. And so clearly there’s been no decline yet in remote work in certain sectors. But what about the future?

Well, how about this statistic? The report further indicates that of remote workers surveyed when asked if they desire to continue working remotely, a whopping 98% indicated that they want the option to continue working remotely for the rest of their careers.

So, if you’re a business owner, brace yourself and prepare for the new era in business that’s clearly here to stay.
